Who (am I)?
My name is is Anis Kallel, and I am the Co-Founder and CTO of Flouci (Kaoun), a Fintech startup based in Tunisia working on eKYC, payments and credits in the region. I studied Computer Science and Business at the University of Rochester, New York.
In 2017, I worked as an associate at Seedstars World where I traveled across Sub-saharan Africa to identify the best and most investable early-stage startups. I worked with corporates, governments, and startups on growing the entrepreneurship ecosystems, sharing success stories and opportunities, and attracting further investment in the region.
Inspired by the potential of technology to reduce barriers to entry for the underbanked and underserved, I moved back to Tunisia to work on Flouci, a financial super-app that allows individuals and businesses to create a free bank account and a mobile wallet via smartphone, and access a range of financial and governmental services. I am also a Fellow at Harambeans, an alliance of determined entrepreneurs who are building Africa's future, and was nominated in 2019 as one of the top 100 leaders of tomorrow at the St Gallen Symposium in Switzerland.
What (is Kafteji News)?
First, Kafteji?
Kafteji is one of our most beloved local dishes in Tunisia. It’s a mix of many (fried) vegetables, eaten with fresh crispy bread. I call the content I make Kafteji News for two reasons:
Kafteji brings people together, and brings them happiness.
Kafteji is a mix of many things, and I want my content to be varied, based on the things I am interested in and learning about; mostly technology, economics, psychology, and obviously the world of startups.
Whether it be videos, text, or any other format, my goal is to share what I learn and document my journey. I consume a lot of content in English, but rarely find it in plain simple language for Arabic speaking audiences, my goal is also to build that bridge, with the little free time I have.
Why (subscribe)?
I enjoy making videos because it's the most uncomfortable I could possibly feel. But writing comes easier to me, and I can do it in my bed wearing pajamas without anyone judging, so I can always find time for it.
Most importantly, I want to hear what people think about different topics we cover, and interact with the community more.
This is the place for it, and you can subscribe, I won’t spam you :)
